About Us

Hi we’re Matt and Kelley! We live to hike, bike, ski, raft, climb and explore the world around us. We started this blog in 2015 when we moved abroad to Israel for Matt’s work. Since then, we’ve relocated once again to Ireland for work.  While we’re abroad, we’re soaking up every chance we get to see new places and explore this side of the world.  Chasing Davis is a place where we can share the adventures along the way with family and friends.

Who are we?

Let’s start at the beginning! We met at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on a Freshman backpacking trip in 2004. We were friends throughout college but did not start dating until after graduating in 2009. After graduating, we moved up to the San Francisco Bay area where Matt started to work for Vention Medical (then TDC Medical) and Kelley worked as a nanny while studying to become a Registered Dietitian.  Once Kelley finished her Master’s in Nutrition and gained registration as a dietitian, she began working for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.  Fast forward to 2014 and we got married in lovely Grass Valley, California.  We “enjoyed” our days in the Bay sitting in traffic, working long days, and living in a 400 sq ft converted garage….then one day Matt came home from work and asked Kelley if she wanted to move to Israel… she said yes… and well…this adventure was born!

Why Chasing Davis?

I (Matt) wish I could take credit for the name of the blog but alas Kelley thought it up one day while trying to chase me up a mountain. I think it is especially fitting considering my knack for planning overly ambitious trips. I have been known to live life at a somewhat feverish pace (although I am learning to re… rela…relax more), not to mention I plan a lot of trips that involve a great deal of suffering such as hiking 30-50+ miles in a 2-day weekend (here, here, and here) or skiing across the Sierra Nevada mountains (here). As a result Kelley and others sometimes feel like they are chasing me at times to keep up.

Happy reading!
